AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE & NATIONAL SECURITY SECTOR.

Australia is strengthening its Defence and National Security Sector to meet the challenges of the more complex strategic environment Australia is likely to face in the years ahead. Planning is underway for a more capable, agile and potent Sector that has greater capacity to respond to strategic risk and threats.

This Sector is seeking modern warfighting capabilities and critical enabling infrastructure.

Australia’s Defence and National Security Sector has clear demand for critical industrial, scientific, technological and innovation capabilities and a national support base.

DEFENCE INDUSTRY.

Defence Industry

Australia’s Defence Industry is essential to the operations of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and to the capability needed to protect Australia and its national interests.

Australia’s Defence Industry will therefore need to grow significantly over the next decade to meet the demands of a once in a generation recapitalisation of the equipment and systems of the ADF.

In addition to the major warfighting capabilities the ADF needs, Australian Defence Industry also provides support and sustainment. This includes delivering the full spectrum of goods and services critical to enabling Defence capability such as logistic services, ICT, health support, fuel, energy and other support.

SPACE SECTOR.

The Australian Space Agency (ASA) was established on 1 July 2018. Its national policy and strategic aims are to support the growth of Australia’s space industry.

Its initial priorities are:

  • Communications technologies, services and ground stations

  • Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and debris monitoring

  • Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) infrastructure

  • Earth Observation (EO) services

  • Research and development

  • Remote asset management

  • Developing a strategy to position Australia as an international leader in specialised space capabilities
